On the afternoon of Sunday 28 January our “resident psychiatrist” Dr George Stein gave an illustrated talk on the seven suicides recorded in the Bible seen in the light of modern psychiatry. In each case George quoted the relevant Biblical text describing the suicide – usually in relation to a battle, as in the case of King Saul – and then gave a modern psychiatric interpretation of the state of the person’s mind.
Dr Stein has writeen a book on the Biblical suicides, which will be published later in the year.
The talk was preceded by a generous spread provided by the speaker and his wife Suzanna.
Our thanks are due to the Education Committee under Barbarta Kurtz for organising this most interesting event.
