The Caring Community  is made up of a small Committee representing the various groups which form part of the Synagogue. All members of the Committee have undergone the necessary Police checks and GDPR study and training.

The following are some of the activities in which we take a lead or in which we are involved:

Pastoral

We are always looking for ways to help and support any Shul member.   We visit in person, undertake telephoning calling, and virtually through Zoom.

We are supported by members of the Synagogue  visiting unwell or bereaved Shul Members.

Talking Highlight:

A small team of us meet to record to disc or stick the Synagogue’s monthly Newsletter which we send principally to members with sight problems although any Shul member is welcome to have an audio recording as well as receiving Talking Highlight the paper version of the Synagogue’s Newsletter.

Tea Parties:

We run monthly tea parties for those known to us as being on their own.  Attendees may be from Bromley Shul,  local Synagogues, residents and members of our local community.     We serve sandwiches – fish and vegetarian, and home made cakes made by our volunteers; we chat together over a cup of tea for about two hours.

We send invitations to all potential attendees and follow up with a telephone call to ensure anyone wanting to join us for tea  can do so and we arrange transport as necessary.

Knit, Stitching and Nattering:

We support the Intensive Neonatal Care Unit at King’s College Hospital by knitting cardigans, traffic light pull on hats, the colours helping the staff to track each  baby’s developmental progress, small and large blankets and small bonding blankets for parents to wear.

A welcome pack is given to every baby entering the Unit which includes a cardigan, pull on hat, bonding pads for parents, a blanket and a beautifully knitted animal.

We provide a white outfit with teddy bear for parents and their little one who dies.

In addition to supporting KCH we also knit bunnies and chicks, Christmas puddings and Father Christmas’ for St Christopher’s Hospice.

Macmillan:

We have a wonderful coffee morning when we open  up the Shul to local residents to join us and invitations are distributed to our neighbours, and sent to schools, libraries and local Synagogues.

We have tables set with a delicious array of home made cakes all served with tea, coffee or a cold drink.

There are a number of competitions to enter, children can paint and draw and take home a balloon and our raffle usually has amazing prizes to be won.

Each year we have increased the overall amount raised from the previous year.

The occasion is a very happy one.

Others:

*We attend the South  London Forum where a topic is presented and discussion follows.    It is an informal occasion

*We attend meetings convened by Bromley Council.

*We are represented at Transport for London *We attend meetings convened by Age UK.
