Our very informal choir helps to lead the singing during Shabbat and festival services.
This is strictly leading, not performing, as all congregants are encouraged to join in with both read and sung parts of services as and when they wish.
For High Holydays, this group is assisted by a visiting cantor, who not only sings much of the less “choral” liturgy but rehearses the choir intensively during the weeks preceding the services, a process that culminates in the annual Selichot service just before Rosh Hashanah, one of the most beautiful services of the year.
Singers are most welcome to join the choir. It really is very informal. There are no auditions. It helps if you can read music but it is not compulsory. Just approach anybody who is leading the singing at a service or contact the synagogue office.
